Stiebel Eltron Tempra 29 Plus Review

Overview

Stiebel Eltron Tempra 29 Plus is one of the most technologically advanced and reliable Tankless Water Heaters currently available in the market. Stiebel has redesigned its Tempra series units and the new Tempra Plus range of water heaters have advanced Flow Control system, heavy-duty electronics, hinged cover and simplistic single flow sensor design.  In comparison to other gas tankless models the Tempra plus range is very affordable, energy efficient and long lasting. Installation is fairly simple and user friendly since venting is not required. This heater has a digital temperature display and easy-to-use dial selector through which you can set your desired output water temperature between 86 and 125F/30 and 52C. The best feature of Tempra 29 Plus is that it automatically senses and adjusts water flow rate as well as its temperature and calculates the amount of power required to heat the water. This is how it applies exactly as much power as is needed to maintain the demanded output temperature despite the changes in flow rate. We recommend that you get it installed by a professional.

At least 15 to 20 percent electricity bill is saved on hot water production
  • circle
User manual is very helpful and explanatory
  • circle
Easy to install unit without requiring expensive mixing of valves or additional temperature regulators
  • circle
No need to drain and clean your storage tank every year and replace anode rods because it heats water directly and thus, there is no storage tank

Cons

  • The unit needs dedicated water line
  • Some users complain that while the heater is in use a number of other appliances like bulbs or fluorescent fixtures start flickering
  • Installation is although easy but a bit expensive because you will need a new electrical box, 8gauge wire and 3x50amp breakers. Plus, a professional electrician only can install it

Installation and Specifications

You need to install Tempra 29 Plus unit vertically in a way that the water fittings point downwards. Installation is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is arrange three 208-240V lines, that is, six spaces in your breaker panel and 8gauge copper wiring. For plumbing you may choose between CPVC and Copper. If you use copper then we would recommend using sharkbite / gatorbite fittings. The heater has five mounting points so that you could easily mount it on the watt. You may easily mount it on the wall with drywall anchors.

Common Problems

Never use substandard wiring while installing this unit and always use those recommended by the maker. If you use low-quality and/or very thin wiring the chances of putting your house on fire are high. Moreover, never install the heater yourself and ask for professional help.  Use detachable water connections like the braided steel flex connectors for ensuring periodic filter cleaning especially flushing away scale if there is hard water. If you aren’t certain about the electrical capacity within your household then consult an electrician before purchasing the product.

Conclusion

Tempra® Plus is a very reliable, affordable and easy-to-use tankless water heater. It is equipped with the Advanced Flow Control technology that ensures the water temperature remains constant no matter how much the demand exceeds. This means you will receive a satisfying supply of hot water as per your requirement without the fear of cold water splashes while bathing or dishwashing. For this price tag it is the best choice in the currently available water heaters.
